What We Fund

Your generosity in action

The Edmonton Public Library is a vital part of the city, where people of all ages and backgrounds have access to the knowledge, technology, and services they need to learn, connect, and thrive.

Public funding keeps EPL running. Your support helps EPL go further, ensuring everyone in Edmonton has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Your generosity has made so much of what EPL has achieved possible. From
Welcome Baby, which gives Edmonton’s youngest residents their first gift of literacy to epl2go literacy vans delivering books and digital skills training directly into neighborhoods that need them most, to revitalizing Stanley A. Milner Library as a modern, welcoming space for everyone. And with your continued support, the best is yet to come.

Featured Project

Child reading between rows of books

Edmonton’s children deserve every opportunity to build strong literacy skills, stay inspired, and experience the joy of learning. Yet many families, particularly those facing social or economic barriers, struggle to access high-quality programs that set children up for long-term success. EPL’s youth literacy initiatives are designed to bridge that gap.

To ensure these transformative programs can continue to serve future generations, EPL is establishing a dedicated Endowment Fund in partnership with the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF). This permanent fund will provide stable, long-term resources to sustain and expand youth literacy programming for decades to come.

Cook up a story Summer Camp

Every summer, children risk falling behind, and those facing the greatest barriers often have the fewest options. Cook Up a Story is EPL's free summer camp blending storytelling, technology, and culinary arts for children ages 9–11 from vulnerable communities. Through hands-on activities in robotics, cooking, and writing, campers stay curious, build confidence, and head back to school ready to thrive.

In 2025, we welcomed 175 kids — and we're just getting started.

Ready. Set. Read!

The earliest years of a child's life are the most powerful for building a love of reading and access to books at home makes all the difference. In partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, EPL's Ready. Set. READ! program gifts free, age-appropriate books monthly to Edmonton children from birth to age five. Because every child deserves to grow up surrounded by stories.
